Naruto - Spirit's Overture

The History of Rei Fushikouya

Two men wearing black cloaks decorated walked in the shadows of the Sand Village.  They were heading toward a mansion that was against the cliff.  Not far away was the Puppet Corps Headquarters.

The one with night-vision-like goggles spat on the ground.  "I hate nobles.  Spoiled brats who don't understand what others have to go through to in order to survive."

The other man sighed.  "Calm down Migaku.  You know the Fushikouya's a bunch of bleeding hearts who spend their time 'helping' others.  They're pacifistic weakling who despise fighting."

"That's another reason to hate them.  They have one of the strongest weapons in their possession and they refuse to use it due to casualties.  THEY SHOULD GIVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO WILL USE IT!"

"I fully agree. Let's go play a visit then."

"DADDY!! Look! I made my first puppet from scratch!!!  I call him Uni!"  The 12-year old Rei Fushikouya was rolling a large wooden ball that came up to her elbow.  

Jin Fushikouya went over and examine the puppet.  "It looks simple and harmless.  But you've hidden many little surprises in it, haven't you?"

Rei smiled up at her father.

"But weren't you supposed to go to bed 2 hours ago?"

"Aww~ Come on.   You can forgive me, can't you."  She look at her dad with her puppy dog eyes.

Jin sighed and ruffled her hair.  "How can I stay mad at that?"

Suddenly a loud banging was heard.  Jin looked briefly at the door.

"Rei…go to your room.  And take this puppet with you."

"What is it dad?"

"I'm not sure, just go."

Rei slowly went to here room, having her new puppet roll behind her.

Jin opened the door.  "Migaku Kiri.  It's been a while hasn't it?  About 9 years since you were banished right?"

"Nine years and two months."

"Sorry.  Who's your friend?  Another  thug who killed a woman out of jealousy?"

"Tsuyoshi Akiyo.  And I do have a brat of my own."

"Ah. Akiyo.  I've heard of you.  You tried to kill the Kazekage.  So you're both traitors.  Anyway, what do you want, before I drag you off?"

Migaku leaned forward.  "I've come to take what's mine from the head of the Puppet Corps."

"All of your stuff was burned.  You seemed to take all of you puppets.  I did fin one though, I burned it personally."

"Oh, then you owe me a puppet.  And you know the one I want.  Naiya Rimen."

"You couldn't control it if you had it. And I refuse to give it to a savage like you.  Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go send a message to the guards.  I think they'd like to talk to you two.  Could you stay here for a sec?"  

Jin closed the door.  Tsuyoshi shrugged and moved to the door.  "I guess we go with the hard way, then.  I'm glad."

The door blasted open, causing Jin to fall over.  Migaku jumped in and two large puppets then charged at Jin.  The black horned one with iron fists picked him up and held him in place.  The white one with a hardened top and spiked fist punched him in the stomach.

Jin chuckle as he bled from the four holes in his stomach."Soushi Sai…the twin rhinos.  Can't even fight one on one?"

Migaku drew a kunai and stabbed him in the head.  "Don't play games like this with me.  This is the puppet that got you the Captain of the Puppet Corps.  Kumo, the Assassin Spider."

The real Jin came stood at the door way.  "You know him, so I'm guess you also know these.  Kiiro Uwagi."

A dozen yellow blurs shot into the room from outside and swarmed around the two Akatsuki.  

"You annoying insects."

Migaku's two puppets smashed as many as possible, but soon they were heavily damaged by the opposing puppets stingers.  

Tsuyoshi shook his head and drew a sword.  "Get this over with!  Kaze no Yaiba no Jutsu!!"

A layer of pressurized wind blasted into Jin and he was thrown back into the wall.  The only thing that saved him was one of his Kiiro Uwagi who flew in front of him and dampened the blow.

"Dad?"

Rei had come down at the noise.

"REI! GO BACK!!!"

"Time to say good night to your girl."

Migaku's large puppets stood over the girl, ready to strike.

"Kihigi: Doumon Houshin!"

A large serpentine puppet with shimmering plates shot up from underneath the Shiro and Kuro.  Naiya Rimen crushed both puppets between its diamond tipped fangs.

Migaku cackled.  "YOU LOWERED YOUR DEFENSE AND GAVE ME MY PRIZE!!!"  

Migaku ran forward and jammed a kunai into Jin's side.  The man fell back, coughing up some blood.  He quickly pulled out a large scroll that had fallen nearby and drew seals on it with his blood.  Naiya Rimen vanished into the scroll.  

"DAMN YOU!"

Migaku pulled out the Kunai and stabbed him three more times, before leaving the kunai imbedded in his heart.

"DAD!!!"

Rei ran forward to try to help her father.  However, Tsuyoshi appeared in front of her an smashed the bottom of his hilt into hr left eye, knocking her out.

"This is your prey.  What do you want to do with them?"

Migaku grabbed Jin's lifeless body and started dragging him.  He also bent down and picked up the scroll.

"We may need this ones blood for the scroll, so I'll take him with me.  As for the girl and this house…let them burn."

Once they were outside the house, Migaku and Tsuyoshi threw kunai back into the house.  Then they started heading for the exit of the sand village.

Rakurai Misuteru was walking back home.  He had been out training to get into the Academy.  As he was walking, he saw a trail of blood that crossed his path.

"What the hell?"

He looked both direction and saw that the windows of the Fushikouya Mansion were all broken.  He ran to the house and saw that the door was destroyed as well.  The entrance hall looked like a battleground.  A girl was lying among the rubble, her left eye was swollen and the socket seemed broken.  

He was going to leave and go for help, but a Kunai caught his eye.  A paper bomb was wrapped around the handle.  A spark of flame suddenly appeared.

"CRAP!!"

He ran over and picked up the girl and shot out the building.  Right as he passed through the door, the bombs all went off and he was sent flying forward.  The girl was dropped and slid a few feet away and Rakurai lay there on the ground, unconscious.

After a few minutes, Akizakura had come to see what the smoke was.

"Is there a bonfire?"

She approached and found two children unconscious a little ways away from the so-called bonfire.  When she saw they were injured, Aki immediately pulled out and unraveled a scroll.  She bit her finger and smeared her blood along the paper.

"Kichiyose no Jutsu!"

A herriar hawk suddenly appeared in front of her.  She reached out and rubbed its head.  

"We're going to need help.  Tell them that some kids had trouble when playing with their fire."

The hawk looked at the burning building and shook it head.  Then it flew off toward the Kazekage Manor.  While she waited for reinforcements, she walked toward the fire.  

"Hmmmm…there seem to be stuff in there.  Why would they burn that?  Kenseki no Jutsu."

Once her arms hard hardened to that of stone, she made one strong punching motion and blasted a wave of chakra out the end of her fist.  This caused a gust of wind to cause the inferno to go at once.  It was at that moment when more ninja appeared on the scene.

Aki just stood and watched as the boy was checked for burns.  The girl was having her left eye covered with bandages.  Out of an act of boredom, she went and picked up some of the contents of the house that was burning.  She was able to find two puppets, but everything else was practically destroyed.  

One other thing she did find was the remains of a kunai knife.  After examining it, she striped off the bindings around the handle and rubbed it through her fingers.  It seemed to be some type of white silk that wasn't used often for weapons.  It had been famous as a calling card for a murderer from many years ago.

"What was he doing here?"

3 DAYS LATER

Rei finally woke up in the medical room located in the Kazekage towers.  She sat upped and felt her vision was a bit different.  She reached up and felt bandages covering the place where that man had hit her earlier.

"The doctor said you were able to keep you eye.  But it seems the pupil has been closed shut.  They doubt you'll be able to see out of that eye again."

Rei turned and saw a sand village girl she had seen around the village.

"Who are you?"

"Sabakuhana Akiyo.  I was getting some medicine for a friend when you woke up.  It was by luck that we met.  The boy who saved you woke up two days ago. "

Rei shook her head trying to remember what happened.  Then it suddenly came to her.  

"Where's dad?"

Sabakuhana sighed.  "Jin Fushikouya's body has not been found.  We assume he burned with the house."

It felt like Rei was struck in the face; she looked almost dazed.  Seeing this, Sabakuhana walked out of the room and left her to herself.  Rei was grateful for this and broke down crying.

1 WEEK LATER

For the first week, Rei was forced to live in the medical room.  With he home burnt down and no parent to care for her, she was an orphan.  But soon, she was moved out to live with somebody who she thought she didn't know.

A jounin by the name of Baki led her to a place that was in an entirely different part of town from her old mansion.

"This person has also lost both her parents.  We decided it would be best if you two helped each other to survive."

Rei slowly nodded.  She didn't really know how to explain her situation to somebody she barely knew.  She hoped that the person who lived here wouldn't ask too much about it.

Upon opening the door, she saw the same girl she met at the hospital.

"This is Sabakuhana Akiyo.  Her Aunt is not in all the time so the house is practically hers.  Take a room and don't move anything you shouldn't"

After Baki left, Sabakuhana turned to Rei and smiled.  

"Hello.  I am surprised to see you again."

"Like wise."

"Well…there aren't many rules here.  The kitchens over there and the laundry can be done in there.  I usually go to the Ninja Academy early so you may have to come with me.  I doubt you finished your studies."

"I only have one year left."

"Well, good.  Me too, we'll graduate at the same time.  One thing you should know is that there are no servants here so you're going to have to fend for yourself."

"Servants?"

"Well, you lived in a manor, so I assume you had a maid or butler."

"No.  It was just me and dad."

"Oh…I'm sorry.  That was rude of me."

"It's alright.  I'm used to it.  And I'm probably going to get more at the Academy."

Sabakuhana gave a sad smle and nodded.  "Well on a lighter note, that boy who saved you will also be at the Academy.  You can get the change to thank him.  His name is Rakurai, a ninja who uses lightning type ninjutsu."

"OK…I'll be sure to thank him."
